meme wishes

It's almost been a week since Scarlett tagged me to do this meme and, honestly, it's about the only thing I've thought about. Well, I did spend a little time thinking about what to give RL for Valentine's Day (by the way, Desmond, I totally stole your wife's idea) and a little time studying for a test. But for the most part I've been thinking about this meme; it was hard!!

First off, I'm not very materialistic (at least I don't think I am) so coming up with 5 material wishes was hard. And I didn't want to sound preachy, so I had to keep editing my 5 spiritual wishes. Anyway, I'm sorry it took so long, but here it is:

Five Material Wishes

  1. A nice house in a nice neighborhood. For a couple of years, RL and I have been talking about moving. Last Saturday we finally took the first real steps towards this, so hopefully this wish will be coming true soon.

  2. A brand spankin' new car. I've never owned a new car, so that would be kinda cool. I'm not sure what new car I would want, but more than likely it would be a Ford.

  3. A leather coat. For the past five years I've been wearing a black vinyl jacket. I've lost weight so now it's too big and I'm just plain sick of it. But I have looked at some nice leather jackets, priced them, and will probably buy one for myself this year.

  4. I wish I could go on a shopping spree to completely redecorate: new furniture, new pictures, new everything. Of course, some of my things I would keep (like my pool table), but there is so much mixed matched furniture in my house it drives me crazy! Most of the large pieces (piano, china cabinet, dining room set) were inherited from my grandmother and my Mom, so that's difficult. But it's more difficult for me to have Early American, Art Deco, and Victorian styles in the same room!

  5. Ok now, this wish is something that I would not ever buy for my self, because it is way too high maintainence. But I wish I could have a nice manicure and massage every week. I've only had one professional manicure and massage in my entire life and each were the best experience.
Five Spiritual Wishes
  1. I wish I could articulate better to others about my relationship with Jesus Christ. I usually have an easy time talking to people, but when it comes to sharing my faith it's a little more difficult.

  2. I wish I felt more comfortable praying with individuals. There have been times when I knew I should pray with specific people and just couldn't get over myself to do it. I always admire people who are able to do that.

  3. I wish there was less church and more of The Church. Somehow I think Christians have made going to church more of a priority than anything else.

  4. I wish we, as Americans, appreciated our freedom to worship. We really can't understand or fully appreciate how good we have it, because it's all we've ever known.

  5. I wish judgmental, hypocritical, and just plain mean people wouldn't profess to be Christians. I realize we all have our faults, but there are some that just give Christians a bad name.

I think these are great; I know what you mean on the comfort level re: praying with others. I'm getting better at it, but I do find it hard.

I'm hoping some of these will manifest for you, perhaps you'll get to start the new decor if you get the new house?

This is great, Phyllis! I've been pondering this for a chunk of the past week, too, and wondering how to answer. It isn't that easy! A lot of what you have here, I have also thought of.

Good luck on those first steps towards a new house!

I loved this. I understand that it takes time to evaluate what you really want both spiritually and materialistically. Goodness, if it didn't take any time then I would wonder if you are materialist and lazy spiritually. I agree with you on all of the spiritual wishes, especially numbers 3-4. Right on girl!

PS do people still say "right on"? I hope so or I will feel silly.

So, did RS enjoy his six-pack?

Thanks for this, Phyllis. I'm with you on #5. Sometimes I wish that some of my 'brethren' would keep their mouths shut more often. . . (But, you know, there's nobody in the Church except sinners, anyway; do they have to make it so obvious, tho?)

(Really, Therese, I meant RL!)
