Sometimes the old must be thrown out to make room for the new. Sometimes it's necessary to clear out the clutter in order to simplify life. Did you know the same is true for words in dictionaries?
How dumb...like a kid would even need to look up "voicemail" or "MP3 player"
And is there really much of a market for dictionaries in book form? My kids just use dictionary.com and the like. I'll assume that internet sites are not limited in the number of entries!
The list of words removed seems really random and somewhat bizarre, to be sure, but to be perfectly honest, I wonder how many kids actually have a dictionary around to look up words.
Take out beaver? Hamster? Minnow? Beyond the removal of words that may or may not be specifically christian, how do they determine that children don't need to know about certain animals?
I was just wondering the closet thing, myself... and about to ask if you'd mind stopping by and working your magic on the one that time forgot here at my place. :)
When I was little I used to think that the dictionary held All The Words In The Whole World.
Thanks for wrecking that little daydream for me, Phyllis! :D
If Britain is a multi-faith society, why can't Christianity be considered one of the faiths? I get ADDING words that refer to other religions, but taking out Christian terms?

Well, you know, if you take it out of the dictionary, it ceases to exist, right?
(*good grief*)

I've always been very neat - but maybe it's my boarding school background!
It just means I never have to get into a cleaning frenzy ....

Sheesh
A closet this neat is the sign of a sick mind. Is this your closet?
Holy crap! I could eat off your sweater.
I wish I had a closet like that!
